Day-by-Day Itinerary

5 Day Fly in Okavango Delta

Set off on a five-day adventure through one of Botswana’s most wildlife-rich regions, the Okavango Delta. Located within exclusive private concessions, both camps offer an intimate, off-the-grid safari experience.

Glide through the Delta’s lush waterways, home to vibrant birdlife, elephants, and hippos. Then head into the predator-rich plains of Kwara, where lions, leopards, and wild dogs roam freely.

These are some of the most wildlife-dense areas in all of Africa, and a safari experience you’ll never forget.

  • Your adventure begins with your arrival at Kasane Airport, followed by a scenic light aircraft flight of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to the Pom Pom Camp airstrip, your base for the next two nights.

Nestled within a private concession on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, Pom Pom Camp offers front-row access to the Okavango Delta’s maze of shimmering channels and lagoons.

Expect incredible opportunities to spot leopards and other big cats, head out on seasonal bush walks, and enjoy night drives and off-road safaris in search of elusive nocturnal wildlife. From March to December, birding is exceptional, and water-based experiences like catch-and-release fishing and tranquil mokoro (dugout canoe) safaris may also be available, depending on seasonal water levels

LEARN ABOUT THE DESTINATIONS

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is a rare natural wonder, a lush, inland oasis in the middle of Botswana’s dry Kalahari Desert. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s one of the few major river deltas that doesn’t flow into the sea. Instead, it spreads out into a maze of lagoons, channels, and islands, creating an ever-shifting paradise teeming with life. This unique ecosystem supports an astonishing concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, and some of the world’s most endangered species like the African wild dog. It’s not only vital for biodiversity but also deeply tied to the culture and livelihood of local communities. The Delta’s beauty and ecological importance make it one of Africa’s most treasured and protected landscapes.

Trip Experiences

When to go to Botswana?

  • For classic safari conditions and unparalleled wildlife encounters, Botswana shines brightest during its dry season. Imagine warm, sun-drenched days (22°C to 35°C) ideal for thrilling game drives, followed by crisp evenings under a breathtaking canopy of stars. This is also when the Okavango Delta reaches its peak magnificence. The floodwaters are at their highest, transforming the delta into a labyrinth of shimmering waterways and lush islands, creating the iconic channels and lagoons that define its beauty. Animals congregate around these life-giving water sources, making wildlife viewing exceptionally rewarding. Expect concentrated populations of elephants, lions, leopards, and a plethora of other fascinating creatures.

  • The shoulder season offer a delightful blend of pleasant weather, fewer fellow travelers, and excellent value. Temperatures are comfortable, and while you might experience an occasional light shower, the landscapes begin to transform, becoming lush and green. This is a wonderful time for birdwatching as migratory species arrive, and you'll often have more intimate encounters with wildlife due to the smaller crowds.

  • The green season (December to March), also known as the rainy season, unveils a different kind of magic. While occasional showers are part of the experience, they are usually short-lived and followed by sunshine. The landscape bursts into vibrant green, offering a stunning backdrop for your safari. This is the birthing season, a special time to witness newborn animals taking their first steps. Visitor numbers are at their lowest, providing a more exclusive and intimate experience with the wilderness. The dramatic skies and lush vegetation create incredible photographic opportunities, making it a photographer's dream. While game viewing might require a bit more patience as animals are more dispersed, the rewards are often unique and unforgettable.
